EV plug types in Nepal: CCS2, GB/T and Type 2

Nepal's 624 listed charging stations use three plug types. Which stations you can use depends on the charging port on your car, so check the port, or your car's manual, before a trip.

CCS2

CCS2 (Combined Charging System, also called Combo 2) adds two large DC pins below a Type 2 socket, so one port on the car takes both AC and DC. It is widely used for DC fast charging in Europe and India. A CCS2 car can also use Type 2 AC chargers through the top half of its port.

GB/T

GB/T is China’s national charging standard. Cars that use it have two separate ports: a smaller one for AC and a larger one for DC. GB/T and CCS2 plugs don’t fit each other’s ports.

Type 2

Type 2 (IEC 62196 Type 2) is a seven-pin AC plug. AC power goes through the car’s on-board charger, which usually sets the speed, so a car may charge slower than the station’s rating. Type 2 sockets in this listing are rated up to 40 kW. Some sources list these AC sockets as CCS2; here they are shown as Type 2.

AC or DC?

DC chargers feed the battery directly instead of going through the car’s on-board charger, so they are much faster. In this listing, DC plugs are rated up to 240 kW and AC plugs up to 40 kW. 167 stations have both CCS2 and GB/T, so they suit either kind of car.
